Homotopic Classification of Yang–Mills Vacua Taking into Account Causality

چکیده

In this letter we study the existence of θ-vacuum states in Yang–Mills theories defined over asymptotically flat, stationary space-times taking into account not only the topology but the complicated causal structure of these space-times, too. By a result of Chruściel and Wald, apparently causality makes all vacuum states, seen by a distant observer, homotopically equivalent making the introduction of θ-terms unnecessary in (causally) effective Lagrangians. But a more careful study shows that certain twisted classical vacuum states survive even in this case eventually leading to the conclusion that the concept of “θ-vacua” is meaningful in the case of general Yang–Mills theories. We give a classification of these vacuum states based on Isham’s results showing that the Yang–Mills vacuum has the same complexity as in the flat Minkowskian case hence the general CP-problem is not more complicated than the well-known flat one.

The Impact of Human Capital on FDI with New Evidence from Bootstrap Panel Granger Causality Analysis

T his study evaluates the causality relationship between human capital and foreign direct investment inflow in twenty-six OIC (the Organization of Islamic Cooperation) countries over the period 1970–2014. We employed the panel Granger non-causality testing approach of Kònya (2006) that is based on seemingly unrelated regression (SUR) systems, and Wald tests with country specific boot...

On the Analog Strong Cp Problem in the Cp N −1 Models A

Non-perturbative effects can introduce CP violation into the strong interactions. Since no such violations of this discrete symmetry have been observed, an avoidance mechanism must be operative. Although many proposals have been suggested to resolve this issue, the strong CP problem remains one of the outstanding low-energy mysteries of the standard model of particle physics. A four-dimensional...

Yang-mills Connections on Surfaces and Representations of the Path Group

We prove that Yang-Mills connections on a surface are characterized as those with the property that the holonomy around homotopic closed paths only depends on the oriented area between the paths. Using this we have an alternative proof for a theorem of Atiyah and Bott that the Yang-Mills connections on a compact orientable surface can be characterized by homomorphisms to the structure group fro...

We present a new model of dark energy which could explain the observed accelerated expansion of our Universe. We show that a five-dimensional Einstein-Yang-Mills theory defined in a flat Friedmann-Robertson-Walker universe compactified on a circle possesses degenerate vacua in four dimensions. The present Universe could be trapped in one of these degenerate vacua. With the natural requirement t...

Magnetic discrete gauge field in the confining vacua and the supersymmetric index

It has recently been argued that the confining vacua of Yang-Mills theory in the far infrared can have topological degrees of freedom given by magnetic Zq gauge field, both in the non-supersymmetric case and in the N = 1 supersymmetric case. In this short note we give another piece of evidence by computing and matching the supersymmetric index of the pure super Yang-Mills theory both in the ult...
